1. Develop your radio skills through in class workshops run by L& IT. We will have several in class sessions dedicated to learning about the elements of a good radio segment as well as the production skills, software, etc. needed to create your own podcast. The workshop will be held on 9/23.
2. Develop some ideas and then meet with your group to discuss (must be completed before October 2nd). This is a small group assignment and will require coordination outside of class. Like your book group, you may want to use something like Facebook or Google Groups to help get yourselves organized. Each group is expected to develop two different ideas that they might considered as segments for our radio program focused on school reform. We will have a “pitch” meeting on October 2nd where a representative from your group will pitch your ideas to the class for discussion. Based on class feedback, you will be asked to produce one of the two segments that you pitched.
What makes a good pitch? You should work with your team to develop a solid description of two potential segments. Talk about why the issue is important, the critical perspectives you hope to bring to it, how it links to course themes, what kinds of interviews will make it great, and some preliminary ideas about how to “hook” your audience.
