Radio Segment Part 4 : Due 10/21
With your best idea approved by the class, it will be time to map out your production plan. This plan should provide an outline with the following elements. Note: The annotated bibliography should be handed in with the production plan but can exist as a separate document:
- Story focus/theme spelled out in some detail (one page)
- Annotated bibliography.Remember your radio piece will need to be informed by the ongoing discussion of the issues in both academic and popular sources. An annotated bibliography is a way to summarize the background literature that is directly relevant to the research that you are doing. Here is what you need for this assignment:
- Format: Your annotated bibliography should include the full citation for the source. Following the citation you should include a brief description of the source 3-4 sentences summing up the main focus of the article, book, etc. Finally include 2-3 sentences about how the book informs your story line.
- Sources: You should include readings from the course where appropriate, but you should go beyond the course readings to also include newspaper or magazine articles, as well as other books or academic journal articlesthat are relevant. You should have a mix of sources (at least two from each of the four bolded categories above).
- The hook— your strategy for telling the story in a way that will grab listener attention (one paragraph)
- Ideas about music or other sound effects you might use to enhance the experience of listening
- Who you intend to interview and how those interviews will advance your story
Professor Feuerstein will need to OK your plan before you begin production.
Once your production plan is approved, it is time to start developing content. In this step you need to work on conducting the interviews and outlining your piece. This using good recording equipment from the library, making sure you have good batteries, scheduling interview times etc. The goal is for you to cut 1-2 hours of taping down to what will fit in a 6-7 minute segment in a way that advances your main point.
